Amazon Fees Calculation in Seller Assistant

This article explains how Seller Assistant calculates Amazon fees, and how this affects profit accuracy

Updated this week

Fee calculations are based on Amazon marketplace rates, category rules, product size, weight, and selected price. Fees are displayed in:

All fees shown in the profit breakdown contribute to Net Profit and ROI.

FBA Fulfillment Fee

The FBA Fee is calculated per unit and depends on:

  • Marketplace

  • Size tier (standard, oversized, bulky)

  • Weight

  • Hazmat status (if applicable)

When available, Seller Assistant uses Amazon marketplace data.

If not available, the fee is calculated based on Amazon's official size and weight rate cards for the selected marketplace.

Note

If product dimensions or weight are incorrect, the FBA fee and profit will be inaccurate.

Referral Fee

The Referral Fee is calculated as a percentage of the selling price. It depends on:

  • Product category

  • Marketplace

  • Entered price

When category-based referral percentages are available from Amazon, they are used.

If not available, the system applies marketplace category rate cards.

Note

Changing the selling price immediately recalculates the referral fee and profit.

Storage Fee (FBA)

Storage Fee is calculated based on:

  • Marketplace

  • Time of year (Jan–Sep vs Oct–Dec)

  • Size tier (standard or oversize)

  • Hazmat status (if applicable)

  • Product volume

Storage rates follow official Amazon storage rate cards per marketplace.

Note

Q4 storage rates are higher. Profit may change significantly during Oct–Dec.

Inbound Placement Service Fee

Inbound Placement Service Fee is displayed using the maximum rate for the product's size and weight category. It is based on:

  • Size tier

  • Weight range

  • Shipment split type

The system applies the maximum applicable rate for conservative profit estimation.

Note

Actual inbound placement fees may be lower depending on shipment configuration.

Variable Closing Fee

Variable Closing Fee applies only to specific media categories:

  • Books

  • DVDs

  • Music

  • Video Games

  • Software

It is a fixed per-unit amount depending on marketplace and category. If the product is not in one of these categories, this fee is not applied.

Digital Service Fee

Digital Service Fee is calculated as a percentage applied to:

  • Referral Fee

  • Variable Closing Fee

  • FBA Fee (in applicable marketplaces)

The exact application depends on the % you've provided and selected application scheme. This fee is calculated automatically and included in total Amazon fees.

Why Profit May Differ from Seller Central

Differences may occur due to:

  • Missing or incorrect product dimensions

  • Category mismatches

  • Seasonal storage rate changes

  • Marketplace-specific rules

  • Shipment configuration affecting inbound placement fees

Seller Assistant calculates fees based on the best available marketplace data and official rate cards at the time of analysis. If key product data changes, fees and profit are recalculated automatically.

In case of mismatches, you can enter FBA and Referral fee into the Price List Analyzer table view for accurate profit calculation.
