Profitability shows the profit of your Amazon sales after product cost, Amazon fees, refunds, ads and account costs. It is an operational view of what already happened. It is not a formal set of accounts, and it does not replace your bookkeeping.
It answers a different question from Product Calculator. Product Calculator estimates profit before you buy or list. Profitability measures results after orders, fees and costs are recorded.
Note
Profitability is in Beta. Preview on Pro; access is guaranteed on Business / Business Plus.
This article covers Overview. For the other pages, see P&L in Profitability, Payouts in Profitability and Profitability settings.
Before you start
Connect your Amazon seller account. Overview reads orders, refunds and fees from Amazon.
Set the product cost of your SKUs. Without a cost, the profit of a unit is not known. Use Add costs on Overview, or import costs from a file.
The toolbar
All products (scope) - limit Overview to suppliers, brands, products or SKUs. Combine kinds when you need a narrower set.
Marketplace - the marketplace of the figures. Each marketplace keeps its own currency. There is no combined total across currencies.
Recent, Monthly, Custom - the periods of the cards. Recent uses Today, Yesterday, 7 days and 30 days. Monthly uses month names. Custom is a date range with two cards: the range you pick and the previous period.
Export - download the table as a CSV file.
Settings (gear, next to Help) - how Seller Assistant counts refunds, inbound fees and VAT, and how supplier is read from a SKU. See Profitability settings.
P&L and Payouts are separate items in the Profitability menu, not views of this page.
Next actions
The Next actions row shows what to do now. For example, units that sold with no product cost.
Click Add costs to open the Add costs dialog on Overview. Enter a unit cost for each SKU. An FBM SKU that needs postage also shows a postage field. Save the rows you change.
The row menu can Hand to AI, Import from file, Show SKUs without cost, or Remind me later.
Cards
Overview shows four period cards. Each card shows Sales, Units, Refunds, Amazon fees, Product cost, Ads, Account costs and Promo and other. The lines add up to Net profit. Click a card to use that period in the breakdown under the cards.
Click More to open the parts of each line on every card at once. For example, Amazon fees open into FBA fulfillment, referral fee and other per-order fees.
When some units have no cost
Partial profit is not period total
When some units of the period have no product cost, the card shows the profit of the units that have a cost. That figure is not the total profit of the whole period.
A dotted underline marks estimated fees, not partial Net profit. Hover over an underlined fee to see its explanation. When Net profit is partial, it covers only units with a known product cost; units without a cost are not included. Check the unit counts shown on the card or in its tooltip before treating it as a period total.
Chart and cost structure
Under the cards, switch the block to Chart or Cost structure.
Chart - sales and profit by day, week or month for the picked period. Click a day on the chart to open that day.
Cost structure - where each part of sales goes for the picked period: product cost, Amazon fees, refunds, ads, account costs and profit. When some units have no cost, it shows the units that have a cost and says how many.
Breakdown table
The same block can show the picked period by Brands, Suppliers, Products or SKUs. Brands is the default.
Click a brand or supplier to narrow the scope and open the next level.
On a product row, use Show SKUs to narrow the page to that product's SKUs (it changes the product scope; it does not open a drawer). A SKU row opens the SKU side panel.
A row with any unit missing a cost shows a dash for product cost, net profit, margin and ROI, never 0.
Unknown supplier holds products with no purchase order line and no default supplier. Unknown brand holds products with no brand.
When you filter a scope, some account-level costs are not split onto products. The table can show a Not tied to a product row so the total can match the card.
How each figure is counted
Profitability is an operational view. Recent fees and refunds can still arrive, and a period can be partial when cost or data is missing.
Sales, product cost and Amazon fees - counted on the order date, for the selected marketplace.
Refunds - counted on the refund date (the default) or on the order date. You choose this in settings.
Reimbursements, ads and account costs - counted on the date Amazon posted them. Amazon does not always split them by marketplace, so they can cover the whole account.
Dates use the local time of the marketplace.
Do it with AI
Connect Seller Assistant MCP in Claude or ChatGPT (Business and higher), then ask in chat:
"Summarize my Profitability on amazon.com for the last 30 days - sales, net profit, margin and how many units have no cost."
"Show the SKUs that sold units with no product cost in the last 30 days on amazon.com, then help me set unit costs for them." Confirm before any cost is written.
On Overview, Works with AI at the top has ready prompts. On the no-cost Next actions row, Hand to AI starts the same cost-setting flow as Add costs in the UI (you confirm before anything is written).
Setup: How to connect MCP Server to Claude, How to connect MCP Server to ChatGPT. More prompts: Prompts for Seller Assistant MCP.
